A bus load of Pirahnas set off for Dubbo on Friday afternoon, travelling through flood waters and heavy rain, to compete in the Speedo Sprint Trials and James brophy trials on Saturday evening, and following up on Sunday to compete for a place in the 2010 Western District Championships.
Sky and Brook Holland, Anna Miglietta, Lauren and Liam Hughs, Rory and Oscar Cheal, and Zarleigh and Marnie Jones all swam their little butts off and brought home plenty of gold, silver and bronze medals.
All the swimmers swam personal best times over the weekend.
Competing against 198 swimmers from 15 regional teams across the whole of the Western District, the nine Pirahna’s from Lightning Ridge that swam in the championships managed to beat the odds taking fourth place in the carnival.
For their great efforts in the Trials Rory and Oscar Cheal, Anna Miglietta, and Sky
and Brooke Holland will find themselves heading to Canberra for the James Brophy meet and Rory Cheal,
Marnie and Zarleigh Jones, and Lauren Hughs will be off
to Sydney for the Speedo Sprints.
An enormous thank you must go to Outback Tours, Mal Holland bus driver and super coach and parents Yen, Amanda and Chris Cheal, and Richard Hughes who made
the trip possible and so much fun.
