PISTOL CLUB: This weekend visitors from far and wide gathered in Lightning Ridge for the pistol club’s annual Opal Open.
Held every June long weekend, the Opal Open is a very popular competition and this year was no exception.
Andrew Chua from the Lightning Ridge Pistol Club said it was a very successful shoot and everything had gone well.
Those members from the local pistol club who competed had some success against the out-of-towners. The results are as follows:
Service Pistol (C Grade): Dennis “Butch” Meers came second with a score of 752 and Andrew Chua came third with 745. Andrew was the winner of the John Davidson (Off Gun) Memorial Award for Service.
Service Unrestriced (D Grade): Andrew Chua came first with 794, Butch Meers came third with 777 and Hayward Little came eighth with 648.
WA1500 - Revolver (Marksman): Butch Meers came first with 1359, Andrew Chua came second with 1280 and Hayward Little came fifth with 1174.
25m Men’s Sport Pistol (A Grade): Michael Steiner came first with 559; (C Grade): Bill Baker came third with 466; (D Grade): Antony Duedelha came fifth with 382, while Peter Collison came seventh with 190.
Service 25 - short barrel match (D Grade): Andrew Chua came first with 509, Butch Meers came second with 500 and Hayward Little came fourth with 408.
10m Men’s Air (C Grade): Michael Steiner came first with 537.
Andrew said all the visitors enjoyed themselves very much. He also said the club was very grateful to the members who helped out during the weekend, particularly Hayward, Bob, Knud and Butch - it was a job well done.
