The Tigers travelled to St George on the weekend and looked very impressive in their new uniforms.
UNDER 8’s ORANGE
The Under 8’s Black report was unavailable.
The first game saw our young Tigers - Under 8’s Orange and Under 8’s Black - go head to head for the first time this season.
Both teams ran hard and tackled like they’ve been playing for years.
The Under 8’s Orange crossed the line five times with Jock Ellis going over twice.
Jacob Ellis, Sam Rae and Memphis McBride all scored one try.
On the Under 8’s Black side, Tom Barrett crossed over the tryline twice.
The second game for the Under 8’s Orange was against St George Red.
There were lots of big runs and huge tackles.
St George went over the line three times.
Sam Rae scored the Ridge’s only try.
The boys have shown great improvement from the last week and we would like to thank Squealer and Shannon for all their hard work with the Under 8’s teams.
UNDER 10’s
There has been an exciting two weeks of football for the Under 10’s.
Nearly two weeks ago we went to Dirranbandi with a lot of new players and under 8’s who have come up.
It was a challenging first game against a very strong St George side.
Bradley Davies was made captain after putting his hand up when the Under 12’s needed an extra player.
The Tigers lost, but their potential was obvious.
Peter Demaine scored a try on debut - well done Pete.
Player of the Match was Ben Smith.
The Under 10’s second game against Dirranbandi saw the team start to gel under the guidance of last year’s Under 10’s players Winston Bradley, Ben Rylan and Jett Tishler.
The Tigers ran in try after try and with some great kicking skills, won convincingly, proving that the Tigers are ready to roar.
Player of the match was Winston McBride.
Last week we travelled to St. George.
Our first game was against Mungindi.
Joshua Norton and Lachlan Bryden put their hands up to play for Mungindi so the sides were even.
They are both new to league and played brilliantly - well done boys.
The captain for the Tigers was Oscar Cheal.
The first half saw the Tigers do a lot of defending.
At the end of the half, they were down, but they dug deep to score several times.
Kicking practice appeared to pay off with the conversion of most of the Tigers’ tries.
Jett Tishler was Player of the Match for his outstanding running of the ball.
Tigers 26 - Mungindi 16.
The Under 10’s second game was against the other very strong St George side.
Jett Tishler was given the job of captain.
Bradley and Ashley both had some outstanding runs and showed their tackling skills.
Dylan Ciprian also ran the ball well and tackled like a pro. He was Player of the Match.
The team had to pull together and use all their skills, but unfortunately, it was not enough in the end and the Tigers lost this game.
UNDER 12’s
Again player numbers were down at St George on Saturday with only five regular players available to play.
We needed to borrow five players from Dirranbandi and a few from St George along with two Under 10’s Tigers players (Bradley Davis and Patrick Demaine ).
Up against a full strength St George team, we expected to be on the lower end of the scoreboard.
Much to our delight, the players gelled well and we were the winners 10-8.
Adrian Brown, who was named player of the match, put on a great display.
He was blistering in attack and rock solid in defence.
Kyle McGovern led the team solidly as captain on the day.
Jake Henry split the defence line on occasions.
Patrick Moore also ran the ball well and defended exceptionally.
Patty Knight played a blinder and was near unstoppable in the middle of the ruck, palming off player after player with his damaging bursts.
Well done to all players.
Unfortunately, although we won the game, we lose the two competition points to St George as we needed to borrow another team’s players.
This is something that we sincerely hope doesn’t happen again as we could miss the finals if we can’t get more players to sign on.
Please if there are any Under 12’s players out there looking for a great weekend sport, playing the greatest game of all, come on down to training on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 5pm-6pm and help our team defend our 2009 premiership title. New players require a copy of their birth certificate and $60 for registration and insurance, club socks, shorts and polo shirt.
This week’s games are at Mungindi.
The bus will leave the bowling club at 5.45am. It will cost $5.
