Kick-off dates to be decided

18 Feb, 2010 10:26 AM
The Balonne Barwon Junior Rugby League will stage a general meeting this Saturday in Dirranbandi to confirm the dates for the season 2010 kick off.

Officials from The LRJRLC will attend this meeting and report on outcomes to general meeting at The Lightning Ridge Bowling Club on Tuesday February 23 at 7pm.

There is a push from clubs in the Balonne/Barwon to start the season earlier (March 20) and finish the season before the July school holidays.

This is an area the Lightning Ridge executive expressed concern as this would reduce the season to a 12-game format.

Lightning Ridge Club president George McCormick believes the season will be viable and rewarding for all concerned regardless of start finish dates, “if the Balonne/Barwon competition ends in June we may have an opportunity to affiliate with the Country Rugby League for the remainder of their Barwon/Darling competition if it is up-and-running.”

This would give our players a few more games before the footy season ends, obviously we would be required to seek clearances/ acceptance from governing bodies QRL and NSWRL and insurance companies involved but I would like to think they would support the plan should we decide to move that way , its all about offering our players games of footy.

In other news, coaching, manager and trainer applications close this Friday.

All nominations addressed to LRJRL PO Box 743 Lightning Ridge 2834 OR contact Amanda 68 292 196 for details.

Our Junior Rugby League Club committee are proud to announce confirmed sponsorship for the next two years from long time sponsors, John Murray Art, Ridge Rock Earthworks, The Ridge News, Lost Sea Opals and encouragingly several new major sponsors have come on board for 2010/2011 seasons.

The Lightning Ridge Bowling Club, Buttercup Bakeries (Noel Burke), Bananza Merinos and McIntosh and Sons Livestock Transport are all major sponsors for 2010/2011. We wish to acknowledge the support these businesses provide to our Club, players and community and on behalf of our JRL Club we express our sincere thanks.

Our club has a new “retro” playing kit this year and will stand out on the paddock, along with new club venue at Lightning Ridge Bowling Club where fundraising activities, meetings and gatherings will be conducted ... so its all go for season 2010.

Important dates to remember LRJRLC meeting, bowling club on February 23.

Sign on day, bowling club on Saturday February 27.

More information will be provided regarding costs etc in next week’s edition of The Ridge News.
