Under 12s
Two big games of footy at the weekend at Mungindi and two great wins.
Game one: Led on to the turf by captain of the day Patrick Moore, the Tigers Under 12s were up against the Dirranbandi/ Mungindi team.
A few early ball-handling errors saw the Dirran team camped in our half for quite some time. Following some outstanding defence, our Tigers worked the ball up field through great directional play. The attacking raids saw the Tigers get up 28 to 0.
Brody Tzvetkoff claimed the player of the match award.
Patty Moore played his best game of the year with straight running and good support play.
Lightning Ridge 28 beat Dirranbandi 0.
Game two: In what could be the game of the season the old adage “defence wins games”
proved to be very true. The Tigers muscled up against a fired-up St George team.
Halfway through the first half, the Dragons had four repeat sets of tackles (24) on our try line. To the Tigers’ credit, they stood solid and numbered up against the Dragons, repelling attempt after attempt.
The score was four-all when the whistle blew for half-time.
Rory Cheal continued to be a thorn in the side of any ball runner despite his smaller stature.
The Tigers ran in five unanswered tries in the second half to take the points 24 to 4.
Bella was awarded player of the match for an exceptional game in attack and defence.
Final score, Lightning Ridge 24 beat St George 4.
