The Lightning Ridge Pistol Club held its Opal Open on the weekend attracting around 75 competitors from across the State.
Although numbers were down on last year because of another competition elsewhere in the State, all competitors performed well and enjoyed the weekend.
"When I first came here we had 76 members, it is now down to 26, which is partly due to the contraction of the town, and partly due to John Howard," pistol club president Robert Smith said.
"But we try to keep the members we have happy and try to get more people in... all the people in the club are pretty active."
There were 13 events this year including the always exciting Black Powder Salute, which was won by Neal Tolley from Kurrajong.
Patrick O'Moore from Kurrajong came first in the Standard Pistol B grade with 535 points, Chris Parslow came second and David Larard came third.
Bill Hanenberg from Dubbo came first in the Standard Pistol C grade with 514 points, Amanda Graham came second and Darryl Hallewell came third.
Terry Counsell from Cessnock came first in the Standard Pistol D grade, Brett Howarth came second and Edna Kiss came third.
Chris Parslow from Ipswich came first in the Rapid Fire B grade, David Larard came second and Darryl Halliwell came third.
Paul Kearns from Liverpool came first in the Rapid Fire C grade, Chris Jeffery came second and Jeanette Granger came third.
John Nosworthy from Goulbourn came first in the Rapid Fire D grade and went up a grade, Brendan Gordon came second and Bill Hanenberg came third.
