Friday chook run

A great crowd of 31 players hit off in the weekly chook chase.

The winner with a fine score of 25 points was the incomparable Victor Borkovic. I heard a rumour that Victor has been practicing his chipping from the kids sand pit down at Mamma's Cafe. Well done buddy. The runner up was Val Board man who finished on the same score as Victor but lost out in the countback.

Chooks were given out down to 20 points where a four-way count back for the last three chooks saw Greg Johnston miss out.

The Black Opal Advocate encouragement award went to Bruce Cummins with a score of 14 points, just one point clear of Kath Johnston. Hope you enjoy your chicken chips Bruce.

Results - winner: Victor Borkovic; chooks to Val Boardman, Ray Williams, Jim Brown, Barry Fahey, Maureen Pandel, Dennis Underwood, Jan Davis, Heidi Smith, Ron Canlin, Bruce Buchannan, Don Welsh, Ron Hogan and Martin Turner.

Sunday 18-hole medley

Slightly dented by approximately five going to Walgett for the men's open tournament, there were eleven players again for the 18-hole stableford event on Sunday morning this week.

Ladies matchplay

Well, the final game of the year for the ladies in match play has been attended to with the final two girls having their big game.

The final was between Heidi Smith and Michelle Knee. The girls played a hard game with nothing between them until the final few holes, with Heidi coming home the winner, two up with one hole to play.

Congratulations to Heidi, it has been a super year for one of our newest players and she can only get better. Michelle has also had a super year getting into the final at her first go.

Result - 2003 ladies matchplay; winner: Heidi Smith; runner-up: Michelle Knee.

I can now reveal the winners of the pennants game in Coonamble two weeks ago. The winners were the home team, Coonamble, closely followed by Walgett. .
