Weekend camp a hit with pony clubbers

17 Mar, 2005 09:32 AM
Pony club has finally kicked off after the ride-a-thon with our first instruction weekend and campover.

We had a great roll up of riders some with new horses and even some first-time riders which is very exciting.

There was instruction in the ever-important flat work which hopefully flows through to all of their riding.

With the rodeo coming up and particularly with the junior rodeo on the Monday there was plenty of interest in barrel racing.

We took times on Sunday so riders could compare how they were going throughout the year.

They went through a showjumping course on Saturday which we turned into a six-bar on Sunday and that was a new experience for them.

It was a challenge to keep their horses travelling straight and paced consistently through the row of jumps.

We had games of musical cups, red rover, crows-crabs and cranes, some polocrosse and bushwalks to keep everyone settled.

Saturday night saw the die-hards still going but doing it bareback which provided its own entertainment.

The honour roll for falling off has now claimed Stephanie with four falls for the weekend, Jade with one and Jodie with one fall.

All were graceful and everyone was able to get up and straight back on, well done girls.

We also have to say well done to Chloe on her new horse Rebel and Luke on his new mount Patches, as well as Jake and Zac who have just started.

With thanks to the community for their support, the building which lost its roof is now coming together again and should be up and running for the rodeo.

Thank you to everyone who pitched in and helped make our weekend a success.
