Visiting shooters compete on gun club range

02 May, 2002 09:39 AM
The Lightning Ridge Gun Club held its April monthly shoot on Saturday April 20.

The shoot was well attended with visitors from Queensland and Yamba making up the 20 shooters who competed for the prizes.

Now that the club's program has been published throughout the State it is attracting clay target shooters to the town.

It is good to see some new shooters on the range.

The first major event in the late afternoon was a 25-target double-barrel handicap event which was won in convincing style by Steve Raines Snr, who, after missing his first target regained his composure and demolished the next 24 to win from his son Steve Raines Jnr on 23/25 and club captain Larry White 22/25.

Preceding this event was a five target p/s eye opener with only three possibles, Daryl Craney from Yamba, Larry White and Charlie Strike.

After another great barbecue tea cooked by the resident chefs, a 10 target cash divide event was shot to sharpen the reflexes and help the digestive system.

A grade winners were Rex Lehman from Charlie Strike and Daryl Craney.

B grade was led by Larry White from Helen Craney and Richard Phipps.

C grade was won by Peter Hall from Chris Raines with Reino Siponen and David Hall tying for third place.

Then came the major event for the shoot, Nobby's 25 target night single barrel championship.

Following the earlier example set by his father the event was won by Steven Raines Jnr showing his elder peers some excellent shooting with a 24/25.

A grade was won by Rex Lehman, B grade Larry White and C Grade David Hall. Both Steven and David are junior shooters and already showing the oldies how it is done.

This concluded the shoot program for April and the next shoot to be held at the layout will be on May 25 at 12.30pm, when the 'Aggie' Double Rise Championship and the ‘Dirt Diggers Deauville' Double Championship will be contested.
