Golf with the Swinger - Veterans golf

There were ten players on Wednesday afternoon, and looking at the scores they played a four-ball best-ball.

The winners with a score of 29 points were Val Boardman and Wolf Moosmueller.

The runners-up in a count back were Ron Canlin and Bruce Buchannan.

The Veterans Open Championship will be held at the Ridge next Thursday.

You must be a member of the Veterans Association for men aged 55 and over and ladies aged 50 and over.

The cost will be $15.00 per player, which includes meals and competition fees.

Friday chook run

We had 32 players chasing the Friday chooks this week. John Mackay led the way in the morning with a fine 24 points but was overtaken firstly by Wolf Moosmueller with a neat 25 points, then by young Kath Johnston who decided to play fair dinkum golf and scored a super 26 points.

Reg Huntley, who is still suffering a sore shoulder, got everything to work at the right time and equalled Kath's score of 26 points, but due to his better countback figures became the winner for the day.

The Black Opal Advocate Encouragement Award was a hard fought tussle, which saw Nigel Webb have a great try with 12 points, but he really had no chance as Felix Monch put in the hard yards and swamped poor Nigel with a miserly eight points. Well done Felix.

Saturday trip golf.

A total of eight teams hit off for the chance of collecting the holiday away to Tenterfield with two nights accommodation. The final fight-off was between the teams of Robina and Val Boardman with Kath Johnston and Barry Fahey both sitting on 71 points ensuring a count back for at least one of the first two spots. But it was left to Stacey and Barry Reynolds to clean up the day with a super score of 78 points. The happy couple can now head off for a second honeymoon of golf and good food at Tenterfield. Well done gang and hope everyone had a great day.

Sunday Monthly Medal.

Fifteen players hit off in the monthly medal on Sunday, which is a fairly small field.

The winner on the day with a fine score of gross 75 and a nett of 61 was Malcolm Carpenter. Good on you mate.

The runners-up in a three-way count back was Wally "O" from Joe Popovic and Pat Smith all on 67 nett.

This week.

There will be a chook run all day tomorrow from 7:30am to 3:30pm.

On Saturday the Terry Wohni Trophy Day 18 hole stroke medley competition will be held. Social players may play to put in a card, but cannot play in the competition. However, if enough players turn up a separate competition will be held.

An 18 hole stableford will be competed for at home, while at the same time a mixed open tournament is taking place at Mungindi hitting off at 9:30am on Sunday.

Keep swinging sweetly,

Lightning Ridge Golf Club.
