Under-8s produce score feast at St George

28 Jul, 2005 09:05 AM
There wasn't a spare seat on the bus last Saturday as our junior rugby league teams braved the 6am morning blues and headed to St George for the latest round of fixtures in the Balonne/Barwon JRL competition.

Our "Tiger Cubs", under-8s hit the turf first up against a Mungindi side and produced a try feast, racking up 20 trys in an entertaining game.

Every player crossed the white line for a four pointer in a dominate team display.

The big "three", Robbo Lane, Samuel Jackson and Trae Hooper stamped their authority and Tom O'Brien, Josh McCormick, Joel Vrtacnik, Karl Mason and Patrick Moore put on good shows.

In their next game against St George the team continued its top form and ran out comfortable winners again.

Great work 'Cubs', it seems your trip away to Suncorp Stadium is paying didvidends already, scoring over 120 points on the day.

Our under-10 Gold Vs Black, matched up against each other for their game.

The game was a good match up in the forwards with both packs holding their own.

Top games from Brody Simon, breaking the line at will.

CJ Harrison topped the tackle count and Jaxson Tooth showed signs of enjoying his change of positions.

Robert Moriss and Angus Legge ran the ball with determination and the Gold ran out winners 36-0.

The under-10 Gold's, much antincipated showdown with the highly rated St George (Red) Team was the game of the day.

With seven representative players on the field it was a thriller of a game.

The Tigers side held a 20-16 lead with 10 minutes on the clock, but the St George side peppered our line to eventually run out winners 26-20.

The Tigers hard men Greg Brown and Darcy Kidd rumbled their way around the paddock, George McCormick put in a powerhouse display, topping the tackles and producing damaging attack to claim man of the match.

Todd Eliss and Logan Taylor had their best games of the season.

Despite being the better team on the park our boys were unlucky not to get a win.

In the under-12s, St George crossed the line twice in the dying moments of the game against our Tigers outfit.

Zoran Mason showed his confidence under the high ball, Zac Cobb, Thomas Alchin, Terry Brown and Patrick Smith all gave it there best on the day.

Coach Drew is sure to iron out a few problems at training this week after the side fell away in the end with St George taking the points.

This Saturday is our last home game of the season and our teams are sure to put it on the line for their family and friends in the crowd.

So come on down to Spider Brown, full facilities are available, the atmosphere and entry are free.

Tickets are available in the raffle for the NSW State of Origin tracksuit and signed football at $2 a ticket.
