On Friday some of the Walgett and Lightning Ridge junior rugby union players travelled to the Gold Coast and Brisbane by bus with their fathers. The Lightning Ridge kids were Will Weeks, Will Faye, Simon Scoles, Cooper Scoles, Andrew Turk and myself, Jack Scoles.
We left Walgett on Friday aboutlunchtime, had Maccas on the way and arrived at the Gold Coast about 11pm. On Saturday morning we all hopped back on the bus and went to Dreamworld. Everyone liked the roller coasters the best.
That night was the highlight of the trip when we all went to the Gabba to watch the tri-nations match - Australia versus South Africa. The atmosphere was fantastic and Australia was flogging them until there was a big fight and two Aussie players were sent off. South Africa fought back and the game got a bit tense for a while but in the end we were just too good for them!
Sunday morning it was back on the bus and off to Beaudesert to play the Beaudesert Warriors. The Under 10s played first, but the Walgett Lambs proved to be too strong for the Warriors with a final score of 20-15, and a man of the match performance by Beau Smith.
Then it was the Under 12s' turn to see how good the Beaudesert Warriors were. Again the Walgett Lambs proved to be too strong. But only just. The Lambs' Charlie Collis scored a try and converted just before halftime for a 7-0 lead.
The Lambs and Warriors ran back on the field for an exhilarating second half with the Warriors going over the line four minutes before full-time making the score 7-5, but the Warriors' couldn't convert.
We all had a fantastic time and would like to thank Walgett Rugby Union Club for organising such a great weekend.
