Lightning Ridge Pool and Snooker Club recently had its annual general meeting and appointed a new committee just before the start of the season.
New president is Marty Taylor, Joyce Ball is vice president, Craig Morrison became the new secretary and Bree Smith took on the role of treasurer.
Other committee members include Nick Nelson, Peter Hyde, Michael Sharpley and Shannon Nelson.
The club's first game of the season began last Thursday with a pool competition. Tom Loughlin came out as the winner from Alf Seaton in the hotly contested final match, while in Sunday's competition John Dixon defeated a visiting player and managed to win without his favourite cue.
Club secretary Craig Morrison said membership would be taken for the season until the end of April.
He said the club had also already organised a few major competitions to take place during the year with the first one starting play on Monday.
"We are currently taking names for the John Robinson Open Singles competition and nominations will close on Sunday."
"Among the prizes up for grabs are pool cues, cash and trophies," he said.
Mr Morrison said a mixed doubles, ladies competition and other single events were also in store for this season.
Weekly pool competitions will now be played every Thursday at 7pm and Sunday at 12pm at the Bowling Club.
Mr Morrison said with the number of players increasing it would mean better competition, and when more people join there was also the potential for larger prize monies.
He said last Thursday's game proved to be a fast and furious competition, with Tom Loughlin confidently winning against local hot shot Alf Seaton.
Mr Morrison said Sunday's game also sparked a large crowd, with both men and women grabbing their cues for an afternoon pool battle.
