Tigers brainstorm for roaring season ahead

Tigers brainstorm for roaring season ahead

24 Nov, 2005 08:51 AM
The Lightning Ridge Tigers Junior Rugby League Club held its annual general meeting last Wednesday evening at the Bowling Club.

The committee expressed concern at the lack of parents attending meetings.

With about 70 registered players this season, and probably more in 2006, only a dozen or so parents turned out for the meeting, which was disappointing.

Our Junior Rugby League Club is primed for a big year in 2006 following the tremendous achievements in 2005.

The Tigers proved to be a success on and off the field, but behind any successful junior sporting club are the dedicated parents and volunteers working hard, week in and week out, for the love of junior sport.

Our footy club would welcome more parent support for the 2006 season and more attendance at meetings.

President George Mc- Cormack said: "Parent support is a major concern."

Outgoing president Trevor McGovern, secretary Tracy McGovern and vice president Patrick Vrtacnik were applauded for their commitment, time and effort made in support of the club.

Newly elected positions were: President George McCormick, vice president Lorretta Mapperson, secretary Marcia Baker, assistant secretary Tina Leonard and treasurer Melissa Tooth.

Committee members are Joanne and Danny Drew, Trev and Tracy McGovern, Joe Barrett, Louise and Patrick Vrtacnik.

The club congratulated Joe Barrett on his position as the Balonne/Barwon JRL.

The club endorsed the Code of Conduct and Blue Card.

Club sponsorship was discussed and major sponsors for the 2006 season will be announced in coming weeks.

There will be continued correspondence with Walgett Shire Council with regards to a proposed underground watering system and a future club house for the Spider Brown Oval, as well as the availability of grants for transport to and from games.

It was proposed that a players' kit be made available for the 2006 season, which would include players' registration, insurance, tracksuit, shorts, socks, polo shirt and hat.

Parents would be able to pay by instalments each week.

It was also noted that the funds from a family fun day to be held before Christmas, as well as funds raised from the NSW jersey raffle, would be directed towards lowering the kit price.

A general meeting was held last night at the Bowling Club to continue discussions on the issues.
