NSW Sport and Recreation's Far West Academy of Sport and Tennis NSW are soon to begin their search for talented athletes to join the FWAS 2004 Tennis Talent Development Squad.
Regional Academy officer Ben Ballard said Tennis NSW will conduct clinics throughout the Far West, including Walgett, Cobar, Bourke, Nyngan, Warren and Coonamble, to identify up to 40 athletes to take part in this year's talent development program.
"The aim of the tennis program is to develop athletes within the region who already possess the raw skills that can be fine-tuned by coaches to enable the players to pursue higher representative goals," Mr Ballard said.
The program will also assist local coaches by providing them with opportunities to improve their coaching technique.
Athletes selected are given access to elite coaching, sports science services and education and personal development sessions, as well as the advice of the Far West Academy of Sports sports nutritionists, sports physiologists and sports psychologists.
The program also includes three overnight residentials in Dubbo, participation in the Dubbo Paramount Open and regular local training sessions.
The tour will begin on Monday March 8 and conclude on Wednesday March 10.
The Walgett clinic will be held from 4pm to 6pm on March 8.
The FWAS is also seeking interested parents and supporters to play a supervisory role in the program.
The Far West Academy of Sport asks all prospective athletes to contact the academy office as soon as possible.
No athlete will be permitted to trial without first completing all necessary application forms, which can be obtained by calling 02 6836 2978.
