Richard Unsworth and his teammates Rex Perrot and Bruce Lack, travelled for eight and a half hours to compete, but said it was more than worth the long journey.
"The other guys in our team had never been to Lightning Ridge before," Richard said during a break between games, "So we thought, why not?"
The tournament was predicted to be a very close competition, and that it exactly what it was.
The Temora team won by scoring wins in all of their games, but they were closely followed by four other teams who all won five out of the six games they had played.
Two of the teams were from Lightning Ridge, skippered by PA Morris and Stacey Morris respectively, one was from St George, led by Albey Gibbs, and the other was a composite side of players from Lightning Ridge, Dubbo and Goodooga, with Rex Cochrane at the helm.
The four teams which finished second were to play off to determine their final position in the tournament but instead they decided to split the remaining prize money equally between them.
Richard Unsworth and his team were very happy with their win, but also very impressed with the tournament as a whole.
They were especially impressed with the synthetic green at the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club, which was only the second one Richard had ever played on.
"I wish we could take it home with us," he said.
As well, he congratulated Bowling Club president Peter Williams on the success of the event and said, "He runs a really good tournament."
