Three Lightning Ridge Central School students are off to the state swimming carnival in Sydney in April after a great showing at the regional carnival last week.
Bill Turk, Sky Holland and Peter Anderson all qualified for the state carnival at the Sydney Aquatic Centre starting on Sunday April 5.
Peter and Sky also recently returned from Canberra where they both competed in the James Brophy Trophy.
Peter finished 2nd in the 50m freestyle and the individual medley relay while Sky swam very well gaining a personal best in the backstroke.
Bill Turk qualified in 3rd place in the 13 years 50m freestyle.
Sky Holland had an excellent meet, finishing 1st in five events including the 100m butterfly, 100m breaststroke, 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle.
Peter Anderson also had a great event picking up 2nd in the 200m freestyle, the 100m freestyle including a personal best, and the 50m freestyle.
Ben Morris just narrowly missed out on going to state by one second in the 100m butterfly by finishing 4th.
There were also some excellent efforts by other Ridge swimmers including Greta Strasek who took 20 seconds off her personal best time in the junior 200m individual medley.
Kayla Brown also put in a great swim taking 18 seconds off her time in the 50m freestyle.
Brook Holland had many events and put in excellent efforts all day.
Elle Callaghan also went well with 7th in the 100m backstroke and 5th in her heat in the 50m freestyle.
The boys 10 years relay team of Jay Jay Brown, Ceejay Harrison, Dominic Sisa and Dan Gawthorpe also swam very well finishing 5th in their race.
Other swimmers who represented the school and swam very well included Alex Radakovic, Tim Gawthorpe, Sam Brown, Jamila Kidd and Tiana Brewer.
The swimming club would like to thank the many volunteers who helped out at their swimming carnival including Tippy Brown, Zuzanna Sisa, Joanne Strasek, Daren Brown (the main cook), Geoff Chaffey, Malcolm Holland, Jeff Naismith, Yen Holland, Corrinne Williams and the teachers and time keepers for their contribution to the club's swimming carnival.
