Students excel in competition

21 Oct, 2004 08:51 AM
Students from Lightning Ridge Central School travelled to Sydney in the school holidays to compete in the National Aeroskools competition.

Three teams were placed fourth, fifth and eighth in the competition which was an exceptional result considering the number of schools they were up against and the high standard of performance by all who attended.

Coach Leanne Sweatman said the kids really enjoyed themselves in the competition.

"They all felt it was a really positive experience," she said.

Aeroskools is a Sport Aerobics participation program delivered within schools by teachers or qualified fitness instructors, supported by an event scheme that enables students to also become members of Gymnastics Australia.

The objective of Aeroskools is to establish a Sport Aerobics schools competition at a state and national level based on Gymnastics Australia's existing National Levels Program. Aeroskools is aimed at children and youth, both males and females, aged between 10 and 18 years of age within the government, private and denominational school system.

Students also travelled to the 2004 Croc Festival in Moree last month.

The theme of the festival was 'Respect Yourself, Respect Your Culture'. The emphasis was on being the best you could without drugs and alcohol.

A senior team of 26 students and a junior team of 38 students participated in the festival.

The junior team participated in a circus workshop, health expo, a Questicon Science Show and a rainbow art and craft and music experience.
