The Lightning Ridge cricketers suffered a close defeat at the hands of Walgett team Campground at the weekend.
Campground won the toss and elected to bat, putting 148 runs on the board.
Lightning Ridge gave a good chase and came tantalisingly close, but in the end they fell short with 135 runs.
President Patrick Vrtacnik said: "Our bowlers did well but it just wasn't good enough on the day. There were a lot of short deliveries that got smashed for six."
The competition has a round off this week because of the eight-a-side competition in Walgett this weekend.
At the time of writing Lightning Ridge had not yet formed a side, but it was hoped they could get one together at training last night.
The squad will be holding a meat raffle at Newtown on Thursday nights and all are encouraged to support them and their sponsor.
