Welcome all bowlers to 2003.
The start of the 2003 bowling season is upon us already, Inhouse Pennants will start tomorrow at 5pm.
All bowlers intending to play pennants for the club are expected to be on hand to play in these trials during the next few weeks, which will be followed by the start of the club championships in early February.
Last Sunday, we kicked off the bowling season with social bowls played with the theme for the day being Colourful, the majority of the players got the hint and dressed accordingly.
The winners on Sunday morning were: David Stallard and Nick Nelson with the runners-up being P W Morris and Morrie Bowles.
The mixed event on Sunday evening was won by Morrie Bowles and Frank Hay with the runners-up being Betty LeCudennec and Mel Fisher.
Coming events: Saturday, February 1, District Junior Singles at Lightning Ridge; Sunday, February 2, Barwon Cup at Burren Junction (this event is now an open triples event); February 7 and 8, Lightning Ridge Open Pairs event - this starts at 6pm on both days.
Also on Saturday, February 8, the District Junior Pairs will be played at Burren Junction, while on Sunday, February 9 the District Junior Fours will be played at Collarenebri.
This day will also see the start of the Lightning Ridge Club Championships namely the Fours.
In closing this week I would like to wish Mick and Michelle Harman and their family luck and good wishes with their move to Newcastle. The community will sadly miss Mick and Michelle and I hope everything works out for them as they have planned.
