 School carnival a success

School carnival a success

18 Feb, 2004 05:05 PM
Lightning Ridge Central School held its primary carnival at the pool on Friday February 13.

Miracle weather conditions occurred on the day with a light shower in the morning and overcast conditions in between the recent spate of hot weather.

Junior girl champion was Brook Holland, and Junior boy champion was Gyle Strasek.

Eleven-year-old girl champion was Sky Holland and 11-year-old boy champion was Lachlan Leicester.

Twelve-year-old girl champion was Ellora Legg-Black and 12-year-old boy champion was Cooper Scoles.

The winning house was Bodell on 295 points, followed by Reece on 187 and Bruce on 129 points.

To me the carnival was not about winning or losing but about actually competing, displaying team spirit, determination to finish and the gaining of confidence in oneself. I salute all those who had a go and found it difficult, but showed the guts and determination required to finish, this was commendable to say the least. Congratulations to all that were placed.

I would like to thank all the teachers for their assistance in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all children who attended.

On a more serious note, I am very concerned with the hot weather conditions and the subsequent impact it has on children, particularly during the past few days. On Monday February 16 I unfortunately had to send seven children home for bad behaviour ranging from destructive behaviour to offensive language, this is the most that has occurred this season on one day.
