Ridge's 32-14 loss reflects lack of training

Lightning Ridge Redbacks came up against a determined Walgett on Sunday, going down 32-14.

Redbacks player Danny Kapatos said the Ridge only had about a dozen players for the game at Walgett.

The Redbacks also managed to get extra players to join the team at walgett.

Kapatos said the Ridge started off strongly for the first 10 minutes of the match, and managed to score the first try.

But he said Walgett then blew them away as they started scoring one try after another.

"They had a burst of two or three tries, and then we had a good flow of defence for the next 10 to 15 minutes.

"It was a good spell, but Walgett proved too strong," he said.

Kapatos said Walgett's victory was largely due to poor attendance at training by the Redbacks.

"The bad result comes from only four or five people attending training, and our effort looked like it.

"Our performance showed that at the end of the day we've had a lack of training," he said.

However, Kapatos said there were some players who made a difference and played a good game for the Ridge.

"Luke Slade was good in defence, while Lionel Duncan made a lot of yards and played consistently. Dwayne Baker was also good in defence with Charlie Carpenter who also hit hard."

The third round will be played against Goodooga at a venue still to be determined on June 30.
