Ridge under-6s come up trumps against Wolves

23 Jun, 2005 09:49 AM
The break from the rain allowed Walgett players to travel across to the Ridge on the weekend for some serious soccer games.

The Ridge under-6s struck a hard blow to the opposition with a 5-1 win.

Playing enthusiastically throughout, Bella scored one goal and narrowly missed several others.

Dallas, Jake, Lauren and Liam, scored the other goals.

Liam was playing his first game with the Strikers, after recently moving to the Ridge.

Jake Henry stood out and was really focused on playing well and Lauren played a particularly good game.

The under-8s went down to the Wolves in their game on the weekend, 3-1 in what proved to be a very tight match with Walgett running away with it in the dying minutes.

The Ridge, after having last weekend off and with no training on Thursday were slow starters with Walgett controlling early possession.

Walgett scored first but the Ridge hit back through a period of good play with Liam Hughes providing a good finish as usual.

It was Walgett's day however as they scored two more late goals.

Good games from Liam Hughes, Amy Hutchinson and Maverick Brenton.

The Strikers 9s, 10s and 11s played together to make up a team and played against two Walgett under-11s teams.

In the first game the Ridge played Walgett 1 and was defeated 0-1.

Geoffrey Lane played well in goal and on the field.

The second game had the Ridge play Walgett 2.

This ended in a one-all draw with Tim scoring the goal for the Strikers.

Gile played a great game with consistent effort from Brandon and Rebecca.

After watching the under-12s play on Saturday it was obvious that this group just love to play.

The game was fast and hard with the two teams evenly matched, so much so that neither team scored a goal.

Even though numbers are down this year it is clear that the kids that do come and play love the game and would keep playing all day if they could.

Next Saturday, June 25 the Ridge play Walgett in Walgett and coming up is the Tamworth Carnival on August 14.
