Last Sunday the Lightning Ridge Junior Soccer Club travelled to the Moree soccer carnival. Once again the soccer club had the use of the Rudi Hills Express which was very provided by the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club - a big thank you to the club.
Leaving the Ridge in the early hours the teams were in Moree and ready to kick off at 9am.
We soon found out that we didn't quite have the numbers for some teams and so Moree kindly supplied players. The under 12s however ended up having to play one player short.
The under 7s didn't have a great day; not having CeeJay there was a bit noticeable.
None-the-less they played six games throughout the day and put in a good effort. The scores were 0-1, 0-2, 0-2, 0-2, 0-3, and 0-3.
The under 9's had a good day with a few terrific goals. They lost the first game to South Lightning 3-0 then won their next three games.
They beat Moree Red 1-0 with goal scored by Geoffrey Lane.
Next they beat Moree 9's 2-1 with goals scored by Dylan Maude and Geoffrey Lane. The next game against Gough EW they won, 3-1 with 2 goals scored by Gyle Strasek and 1 by Dylan Maude.
The next game was the semi final and the Ridge team went down 2-0 to Narrabri.
The under 11s played six games with two wins two draws, a forfeit win and one loss. Will Weeks had a near perfect day in goal blocking almost every ball that came his way and back, Jay Jackman worked well in defence and bringing the ball forward. He also helped in setting up some of the goals from goal kicks. Bill Turk set up the midfield as his own position.
Simon Coles scored one goal against Goondiwindi B and Cooper scored three goals against Goondiwindi A and 1 against Moree SRF. The scores were 1-1 against Goondiwindi B, 0-0 against Moree AAA, a win against Goondiwindi A, 2-0, a loss against Moree, 0-4 and a win against Moree SRF, 1-0 The under 12's on arrival discovered they were one player short.
They played with a Moree girl for two games then had to play the rest as they were.
In the first game they lost to Narrabri 0-2, then they had a win against Goondiwindi 2-1 with goals scored by Zac Strasek and the Moree girl. They then lost 0-3 to Moree Air Cair, 0-4 to Gunnedah, 0-3 to Moree red and 0-2 to Moree green. Peter and
Zac Strasek is showing that he is a player of the future, overcoming, adapting and showing his skills on the field. He kicked the only goal of the day for the 12s.
On Saturday Walgett play in the Ridge with a home game the following Saturday. Gilgandra gala day is Saturday September 6.
