RIDGE TIGERS ROAR AGAINST ST GEORGE

RIDGE TIGERS ROAR AGAINST ST GEORGE

21 Apr, 2005 08:51 AM
St George was the destination for the latest round of fixtures in the Balone/Barwon Junior Rugby League Competition.

The team bus departed town at 6am last Saturday and although down on player numbers the teams put in tremendous efforts to win all but one game on the day.

The ground stood for a minutes' silence in memory of Ben Walford, with the Ridge sides wearing balck arm bands, representing the loss of a good friend and fellow footballer, who will be greatly missed.

Trevor McGovern and Dave Smiths' under 8's "cubs" shone in both games they played.

Dirranbandi numbered up against our lads and the Tigers ran away with a good win.

Tom O'Brien earned himself man of the match with a top game and Robbo Lane, Trae Hooper and Samuel Jackson-Bolton put in good performances with the final score the Ridge 40 defeated Dirranbandi 4.

St George showed more resistance in the second game in the second game the 'cubs' played, with Robbo Lane scorring more trys to take his tally to ten for the day, what a gifted player.

Top games also from Ted Smith, Joshua McCormick and Patrick Moore.

The ridge ‘cubs' ended up winning in a thriller 24 to 16.

Due to a lack of players the Ridge under 10's Black and Gold sides combined and played impressive footy.

In the best under 10 game of the season, our side gave a spirited effort only to go down by two points to St George 24-26.

Brody Simon claimed man of the match with Ceejay Harrison, Mitchell McGovern and Declan Witlow playing good footy.

In the next game the Tigers played quality footy, securing the points against Dirranbandi 20-6.

Man of the match Ashley Wood produced two scintillating solo trys early in the game to set the scene for a good victory.

Big games by Jaxon Tooth, George McCormick, Todd Ellis and the Brown brothers, Reece and Jayden made sure of the win, well don under 10's.

The in form under 12's faced St George in their game of the day, with another quality win going to the Tigers 26-12.

With only ten run on players, coach Danny Drew was impressed with the commitment and ball movement the side is producing.

Max Troutman (the lightest second rower in the competition) took out man of the match honours.

Great games also from Tyron Drew, Zoe Cobb and Daniel Cubby, top team work under 12's.

Thanks again Trevor McGovern for your flawless bus driving.

With no games for the next two weeks, Mungindi will be the venue for May 7.

The following day the under 10, 35kg and under 12, 43kg trials will be played against Roma sides in Dirranbandi to earn selection in the Balone/Barwon representative sides.

Training continues as normal.
