Ridge teams scoop pool at night bowls tournament

10 Feb, 2005 08:13 AM
Teams from the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club have taken out all the places at the Open Pairs Night Bowls tournament held last Friday and Saturday night.

PW and PA Morris were the overall winners after competing in a three way play-off.

Paul and Ray Brown were second with Michael Smith and Nathan Woodcock third and Cecil Cubby and Rex Scuthorpe fourth.

The prize money totalled $6000 and drew teams from as far as Kempsey on the NSW North Coast.

The club hosted 26 teams from Dubbo, Goondiwindi, St George, Kempsey, Walgett and Goodooga.

The tournament consisted of six games over two nights with the top three teams all finishing on equal points at the end of Saturaday night.

They then entered into a play-off with the winners finishing closest to the yardstick.

Club president Peter Williams said the tournament was a success with the temperature at a good level for bowling.

The night competition was in contrast to the Stan Berenger Memorial Barwon Cup played recently in extremely hot conditions.
