The swimming season has kicked off with a flying start for Skye Holand, who won first place in the 100m butterfly at the Orana Swimming Carnival in Dubbo on the weekend.
On top of this she won silver medals in three other events.
Her younger sister Brook also did very well, beating her personal best in the 50m freestyle by five seconds.
This was the first carnival of the year for the Holand family and they were very pleased with the outcome.
It has been a strong start to the season for the Lightning Ridge Swimming Club in general, with around 40 members signed up for this year.
Competition began in earnest on Friday night when they held the first round of time trials.
Rather than competing against each other the swimmers are trying to beat their own times, with two points awarded for completing a swim and extra points awarded after that for every second they improve on their previous personal best.
The swimming club has just placed an order for some water polo equipment, so look out for that to start some time over the course of the summer.
