In what was a close game of cricket at Walgett on the weekend, the Breakaways managed to squeeze in the win with 84 runs.
Lightning Ridge won the toss and elected to bat first.
For a while it appeared the Ridge team might conquer, as the Breakaways had been in trouble early on in the game with four for 15, but they eventually got their runs in the 26th over with eight wickets down.
The local lads were all out in the 31st over with 84 runs, while the Breakaways made it past their score.
Best batters on the day were Dewayne Baker who scored 26 runs and Michael Matson who made 23.
Bowlers Wayne Kennedy, who made four for 19 in six overs, and Patrick Vracatanick who had three for 10 in five overs proved to be the best on the day.
Captain of the Lightning Ridge team Tony Stockwell said they only needed two more wickets.
"It was a very close match, there were some good catches taken and very good fielding as well."
"We were very unfortunate, because we only faced 31 overs out of the 40, and they (Breakaways) still had 20 overs left but passed out on the runs," he said.
Stockwell said while the game went on for a considerble time, he believes it didn't last as long as it should have.
"We didn't get to make as many runs as we would have liked," he said.
But Stockwell said he thinks Lightning Ridge will still be able to make up for the loss, despite being ranked fourth now.
"If we can manage to win the next two matches, we'll be able to make it into the semi-finals," he said.
After 10 rounds, the Breakaways are still on top on an equal tie of 58 points with the Aces currently coming second, and RSL on the number three spot. Lightning Ridge has now been ranked fourth on 54 points.
The next challenge for the Ridge will be a home game against the Aces on Saturday.
