The first game of the Balonne Barwon Rugby League Competition began last Saturday with four teams from the region competing at Lightning Ridge.
Junior teams from Lightning Ridge, St George, Dirranbandi and Mungindi played nine games throughout the day with mixed results.
In the under 8s Lightning Ridge defeated Mungindi 28-4, St George Red's defeated Dirranbandi 60-4, Dirranbandi defeated Mungindi 20-8 and St George White's defeated Lightning Ridge 12-4.
In the under 10s games a combined Dirranbandi and St George team defeated the Lightning Ridge team and St George defeated Mungindi 42-24.
In the under 14s games Mungindi defeated Lightning Ridge 21-12 and Lightning Ridge defeated a combined Dirranbandi and St George team 8-4.
In the under 14s game a combined St George and Dirranbandi team defeated Lightning Ridge.
The Balonne Barwon Rugby League competition is run under Queensland Junior Rugby League.
The Lightning Ridge Rugby League team obtained permission from NSW Junior Rugby League to play in the competition because there were more teams and the players are guaranteed to play a game on the day.
The competition will continue with Lightning Ridge travelling to other towns around the region.
There is a meeting of junior rugby league on May 4 at the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club beginning at 6pm. All interested parents are welcome.
The new training times as of May 5 are 4.30pm to 5.30pm.
