Push to start league comp

24 Mar, 2005 08:45 AM
Lightning Ridge could be involved in a senior rugby league competition with league officials set to meet this week in the hope of forming the Barwon-Darling competition this season.

Country Rugby League general manager Terry Quinn and former Manly star Ron Gibbs are behind the push for the new competition.

"It is a meeting to see where everyone is in relation to getting the competition up and running," Quinn said.

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, Quinn added the new competition would most likely not involve the Moree Boomerangs.

"In the past, Barwon-Darling clubs have also said they would not travel to Moree so that would be another consideration if the Boomerangs apply," he said.

Gibbs is now working in development at the Country Rugby League and has played a big part in getting clubs together from Walgett, Bourke and the Ridge.
