Polocrosse carnival attracts top teams

28 Jul, 2005 09:04 AM
The carnival on the weekend was a great success with 12 teams competeting, travelling from Dirranbandi, Quambone, Dubbo, Marra, Cubbaroo, Narrabri and Galloping Gully.

The weather was perfect and the dust stayed down at least for Saturday's play.

Play got under way at around 8.30am on Saturday with the Ridge fielding two teams.

The Ridge 1 side consisted of Neville Dawson, Jeffrey Shorten, Dan Evens, Rob Scott, Brendan Frith and Noel Fox.

The scores for Saturday was a 1-all draw with Quambone and then they went down 5-12 in the second game.

The Ridge 2 team was Trish Scott, Felicity Johnson (Marra), Slade Tribe, Murray Scott, Bronwyn Scott and Debbie Tribe.

On Saturday they went down to Quambone 20-10 and to Gully 16-13.

Saturday wasn't without an accident, Neville's horse rolled over him and put him out of action for Sunday but at least he was back on his feet.

The games finished at around 3.30pm, which gave our visitors time to look around and see what the Ridge has to offer.

Thanks to Grassy for providing the music for Saturday night's entertainment.

Sunday's play was under way at 9am.

Ridge 1 had a better day with an 11-7 win over Cubbaroo and then a very close battle to win 10-9 over Dirranbandi.

Thanks to Dan for doubling up for Neville.

Ridge 2 played a hard match but went down to the Gully side 11-3.

The next game went the Ridge 2's way with a win of 7-2 over the mixed team, the Wanderers.

There was a great roll up of subbies looking for games and were looked after by Marg Garnsey from Quambone.

Marg did a wonderful job of encouraging and coaching the children she had in her charge.

We had Guy Tribe, Tiarna Breuer and a new subby for the Ridge, Clancy Knight who had a nervous start on Saturday but was getting into it on Sunday on his pony Tubby.

Guy had to dust himself off after falling off but got back on and kept on going.

A minute's silence was observed by all on the ground in respect to the two Cobbaroo players, Lisa McMillan and John Hamilton who were lost to us only a few weeks ago.

Then it was into the A grade final, the last game for the day between Galloping Gully and Marra.

It was a hard and fast game that brought some oohs and aahs from the crowd with the Gully team coming out victorious.

Many thanks to our sponsors Mr Cheap, the Bowling Club, Elders Brewarrina, Horseland Dubbo, Furney's, Rob Scott, Jessica Illif, Supersave Dave and Marie Dawson.

A special thanks to the many people who gave their time and effort to have the ground ready, and to those who made the weekend a success including Margaret Adams, Craig and Andrew Langley and many others.
