Great to see 11 players turn up for the Veterans Stableford nine hole competition on Wednesday.

Some good steady golf saw four players finish on 18 points.

Pat Smith, Col Cooper, Vida Hanvold and Dave Schafer were involved in the countback and Vida Hanvold was the winner with all the others receiving a ball.

Well done all.

Friday chook run

Good to see a slight increase in the numbers for our weekly chook run with some players starting to get back from holidays we should start to get back to our normal numbers again soon.

We had a total of 23 players for the day.

The early players again made the running this week and gave the others something to chase with Col and Pat on 19 along with Paul and Pat Smith.

Vida and Robina had a healthy 20 with Trevor Hudson leading on 23.

Trevor looked pretty settled in the driver’s seat until Joe Popovic returned his card with a neat 24 points to pip Trevor by one.

This was the way it finished with Joe winning and the last chook going to Nigel Webb on 18 points.

The winner of The Black Opal Advocate Encouragement award was Brian King with a very unacceptable 11 points.

Sunday two person Ambrose

A good turn out for the 128 hole two person Ambrose on Sunday morning at 7am.

There could have had more by some people don’t read the boards at the club or the newspapers and turn up late.

Joe Popovic and Felix Monch looked the goods after the first nine holes and led Col Cooper and Ian Hegarty by three strokes and seemed to be cruising.

Not knowing how the others were going Col and Ian thought they were playing against the wining team and were determined to try and change things on the second nine.

After some great golf by Ian and Col with Felix and Joe self destructing on the last few holes Col and Ian went to the clubhouse with the lead but still not thinking of an over all win.

That’s the way it turned out though as Ian and Col picked up the win for the day with a nett score of 63.75 one shot ahead of Joe and Felix with the balls going to Ron Canlin and Pat Smith on nett 65 and Wolf Moosmueller and Vida Hanvold on nett 65.25.

Thank to everyone who turned up for the game hope you all had a great time.
