Parents join in on soccer game

29 Sep, 2005 08:38 AM
The Soccer presentation last Thursday night was a great success with a good turn out from parents and over half participating in the 'Parents and Players' soccer games. In the under 5's the Best and Fairest award went to Rory Cheal, the Most Consistent went to Archer Holz and the Most Improved went to Steven Lane. In the under 6's, there were a lot of deserving players, and after a lot of deliberation the awards went to Jake Henry for ‘Best and Fairest', Arabella McKenzie for Most Consistent and Lauren Hughes for Most Improved. Jake Peden got the Best and Fairest award in the under 7's and Dallas Woodcock was given the award for Most Consistent player. In the under 8's, the players that stood out were Darcy Single Best and Fairest, Liam Hughes Most Improved and Amanda Morris Most Consistent. The Best and Fairest award in the under 10's went to Rebecca Mackney who played well right from the time she arrived in town, the Most Consistent went to Dan Gawthorpe, while the Most Improved went to Jessica Moran. The under 11's was another age group in which it was difficult to single out players. In the end the awards went to Dylan Maude for Best and Fairest, Jake Single for Most Consistent and Geoffrey Lane for Most Improved. Lachlan Leicester got the award for Best and Fairest in the under 12's and Douglas Neilson got the award for Most Consistent. Tasman Bowerman received the Most Improved award after a great season on the field. In the under 13's Luke McNeice received the award for Best and Fairest, Leanne Haywood received the Most Improved and Kate Moran the Most Consistent. After the formal part of the evening, there was a chance for parents to enjoy the great food and watch the very competitive ‘Parents and Players' games. In all there were 5 teams, each made up of 8 players. The teams were to have no more than four adults and could have as many under 6's as were keen to play. It's always the same at these events. As soon as the parents start playing they don't want to stop. It came down to a battle between Bella's Team and Bobbies team and ended in a one all draw. The referee took the teams in to over time but neither was able to score that winning goal. In response to the overwhelming support and participation in the ‘parents and players game' there will be regular mini tournaments next season.
