Cricket fortunes went aginst the Ridge last weekend with the team experiencing its first loss, going down to Walgett RSL.
Lightning Ridge lost the toss, and was sent in to bat by Walgett.
Ridge openers Goran Matemanovic and John Cochrane got off to a good start, with Matemanovic scoring the highest runs of 37.
However, the home team could not get anymore than 100 runs before they were knocked out.
Although it took a while, Walgett managed to get the required runs, nine batsmen down.
Lightning Ridge Cricket Club spokesperson Wayne Kennedy said Patrick Vrtacnik top bowled for the day with four for 21 runs off eight overs.
Kennedy said he was the other main bowler and achieved two for 13 runs, off eight overs as well.
"It was a tough competition, it seemed easy at the start because we could determine how hard we wanted to go as we were batting first, but in the end it took us a fair bit of time to get them out."
Kennedy said while the Ridge team this year was mainly made up of the same players as last year's team, they were still looking for more interested players who could bowl and especially bat.
"It's good that we do have a team where the players have played cricket with each other before, so they generally know the their team mates' skills and abilities."
The team is currently training on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, with the playing team for that weekend's match selected on the Friday.
This season Lightning Ridge has six opponents all hailing from Walgett.
The Ridge will come up against the Comets in the third game of the season to be played in Walgett on Saturday.
