Mason takes bull riding title

31 Mar, 2005 10:02 AM
This year's Black Opal Rodeo proved to be a dusty affair at times but it was always entertaining as a day full of bull riding, calf roping, barrel racing and bronc riding had the crowd thoroughly entertained.

In the Open Saddle Broc Riding it was Kerry Wellington who came out victorious with Jamie Peacock in second with Danny Swadling and Mark Parmer sharing thrid place.

D Hynaman won the Bareback competition with Jarrod Fields taking out second place.

In the Bull Riding it was David Mason who lasted the required eight seconds to post a score of 78 points and take out the competition.

He was followed by Nathan Cooper and Josh Britton who also posted a score.

Mr Mason was very pleased with his effort throwing his hat high into the air after his great ride.

Nominations were again up this year and despite the dusty conditions event organisers said everything ran smoothly as the rodeo continued to grow in popularity.

The competition was this year held over two days with the junior competition held on Monday.

Black Opal Rodeo president Aub Tribe said it was important for young competitors to have their own event to help the sport of rodeo grow.
