Two local girls have been selected to represent their country in rugby union in the United Kingdom.
Shari Stanford and Amelia Maxwell, who both attend the Lightning Ridge Central School, will pack their bags in November to take part in a one-month journey across the UK to play football in the Antipodeans rugby tour.
The girls said they will now be participating in two training sessions to be held in Sydney, one in October and the other in November, in the lead up to the big trip.
Their school team coach Adam Johnston said Shari and Amelia were picked on their talent, positions and references.
The Antipodeans tour is the first girls' rugby union tour to take place for high school students aged 15 to 18.
The pair said they would be joining at least another 25 players from across Australia who were selected to make up the representative team.
But it was more recent for Amelia that the decision to go on the trip was made solid.
"Originally I wasn't going to go, because I thought the tour would have coincided with my school formal, but I got the dates mixed up initially," Amelia said.
Shari and Amelia have been playing rugby for the past 12 months with the school.
"We certainly never expected to be going to the UK to play football," they both said.
Both girls said during the one-year of playing rugby they had learned a lot about the game and developed in their game play.
