Eight of those jolly gentlemen of the veteran variety hit off in their 12 hole stableford event on Wednesday afternoon.
The winner with a great round of golf was Val 'the master' Boardman with a super 28 points just one ahead of Victor Borkovic who finished on 27 points.
Ladies' golf
The ladies played the last round of their championships on Wednesday this week in warm blustery conditions, which the girls said were very difficult. They also played the last of their medal rounds for 2003.
The winner of the monthly medal was Heidi Smith with a neat score of 118 nett 73, which was one shot better than Jan Jakitcsch who finished with a 104 nett 74. Well done girls.
Jan also picked up the putting trophy for the day with a super 22 putts for the 18 holes.
Heidi has only been playing off and on this year and to pick up a monthly medal is pretty special against a lot of experienced players.
The club championships saw in A grade, Kath Johnston win by 18 shots from Kay Hogan.
Kath really kept everything working for the three days of the championships. Well done Kath, you have done the deed.
B grade saw Jan Jakitsch overtake Jenny Burke in the final round to take out the grade by five shots.
Jenny said she had a disaster for a game and didn't deserve to win. Jan on the other hand kept the ball rolling and played well in the windy conditions with an exceptional round of putting.
Chook run Friday
We had 22 players hit off in the chook chase this week, which gave us 11 chooks for distribution.
The winning score saw a three way count back between Heidi Smith, Dennis Underwood and Don Welsh all on 22 points and resulted in Dennis Underwood being declared the winner. Well done Dennis.
The last two chooks also saw a five way coun tback with the players Pat Smith, Gary Hughes, Nigel Webb, Bruce Buchannan and Val Boardman with the last three missing out. Hard luck chaps.
The Black Opal Advocate encouragement award went to Laurel Voeks with 10 points.
Sunday 18 hole par
Only seven players for the 18 hole par event on Sunday. The win going to Malcolm Carpenter on minus 1. Well done Mal. The runner-up with a score of was Dave Schafer in a count back from Pat Smith. Pat picked up a ball for his trouble.
Glengarry open day
Kay and Ron Hogan, Joe Popovic and Col Cooper went to Glengarry on Sunday for their open day.
It was a fairly disappointing day, player wise with only 33 hitting off. The weather was superb and the course played well.
Congratulations to Lesley Henley and the gang on the outstanding day and as always the food was delicious.
Ron Hogan played really well to clear out with the main trophy, A grade scratch winner and open champion. Ron also picked up nearest the pin on the 8/17. Joe Popovic also grabbed a trophy with a neat 68 nett for the B grade nett runner up.
Please see Glengarry social golf report for the full details and prize winner list.
