Juniors show how it's done at carnival

17 Mar, 2005 09:30 AM
Junior rugby league was at its best at Spider Brown Oval last Saturday as visiting sides from Brewarrina, Bourke and St George took part in a pre season rugby league carnival hosted by the Ridge Tigers.

A good crowd was in attendance to watch our young guns show their skills out on the paddock.

The U8s didn't have a run but enjoyed watching the day's play and undoubtedly picked up a few finer points of the game.

Our under 10s Gold and Black matched up against each other for a trial game and produced some top quality footy and it is predicted both sides will go well this season as all players had a run in a hard fought game.

Tigers Gold were the eventual winners with only a try or two the difference on the score board.

For the Ridge Black side, awards went to Ceejay Harrison for best back and Mitchell Mcgovern for best forward.

For the Ridge Gold team George McCormick was awarded best back and Darcy Kidd best forward.

Our under 14s faced up against a big Bourke side in their game and went very well.

The boys put in a solid effort only to let in a few tries late in the game.

Good effort from all the players with the best back award going to Ricky Weatherall and best forward going to Nathan Klauss.

However, it was the under 12s' day as the side displayed good crisp backline movements, followed up with solid tackling to come away with the Albert Walford Memorial Sheild.

This side is playing good quality football and the whole side deserves congratulations for the effort shown in the three games they played.

With his tenacious tackling Zac Taylor was awarded best forward and the best back award was taken out by James Honnery.

Well done Tigers under 12s.

All in all it was a great day of junior rugby league which provided heaps of entertainment.

A big thanks to Bart, Tracey, Tina, Sam and the Canteen Committee.

Referees Wayne Kennedy, Lacy Brown and Scott McMillan, touch judges Trevor McGovern and company, all our sponsors, supporters and the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club.

The winner of the print kindly donated by John Murray Art was Rhonda Walford.

The Ridge Tigers Rugby League Club would like to inform all parents and players of changes to training times, new times are: Monday 5pm to 6pm, Wednesday 5pm to 6pm.

The time changes will start this week.
