Junior rugby league was back in town last Saturday as visiting teams from Mungindi and Dirranbandi fronted up to tackle our U10s and U12s Tiger outfits.
The absence of the U8s was due to their "weekend of a lifetime" playing a half-time game at Suncorp Stadium during the NRL top of the table clash between the Brisbane Broncos and the Melbourne Storms, in front of 32,000 screaming fans.
The home crowd was down on numbers but was nevertheless entertained as our young guns put on a top show in both grades.
The Ridge Tigers U10 combined side displayed some mistake-free footy in their first game. With our forward pack led by Greg Brown, Rydge Mapperson and Van O'Brien setting the platform, they gained valuable meters every time they touched the ball.
Ashley Wood, Robert Morris, CJ Harrison and George McCormick also stood out with top attack and rock-solid defence. Our Tigers ran out comfortable winners 34-4
In the next game the Tigers showed signs of a lack of match fitness due to a three week lay-off and managed to force a 14-all draw with a combined Mungindi/Dirranbandi side. Brody Simon was outstanding in cover defence and Darcy Barrett has improved every game. Matty McGregor guided the side around the park and Jayden Brown also tried hard.
Our U12s took the points against Dirranbandi in a fiery match. The side produced some top footy with Thomas Alchin, Zoran Mason and Tyson Drew putting in big efforts.
The U12s have had a great run of games leading into the grand final and should be in for a bold showing when they face St George at St George this weekend.
With only three away games left in the season, the coaches of all grades are eager to see more kids attending training in the lead- up to the grand final at Mungindi. So get down to training kids and finish the season with a big effort.
The club now has Polo shirts and supporter stickers now available and is running a raffle at present with a NSW State of Origin tracksuit and signed football up for grabs.
In the near future we will launch our super mega raffle with over $1400 worth of prizes.
So, dig in and get your tickets.
We are St George-bound this weekend with all grades to play.
The bus will leave the Bowlo at 5.45am. Cost is $5 to travel.
