The Ridge travelled to Cubbaroo Winery to play last weekend.
The winery is situated between Wee Waa and Narrabri and they host a pretty good carnival.
Fifteen teams competed with teams from Muswellbrook, Quirindi and Guyra.
The teams arrived Friday afternoon and into the evening with no one appreciating the Saturday morning frost.
We fielded one and a half teams in the seniors with Slade Tribe and Murray Scott in the juniors and Guy Tribe in the subbies.
Playing in the Ridge team was Neville Dawson, Angus Dowton just back from the States doing Equine Denistry, Rob Scott, Neil Fox, Jeffrey Shorten and Debbie Tribe.
The first game on Saturday the team were convincingly beaten by Moree but the next three games were nail biters and the next game was a draw against Guyra with them getting the 8-9 victory via a sudden-death goal.
The next game was on Sunday morning against Inverell and was hard fought with the Ridge narrowly going down 11-10.
The final game was against Cubbaroo 2 and it was hard and fast with the ball being taken from one end of the field to the other.
Going into the last chukka, the Ridge were down by two but then managed to score four goals to get the win.
Our other three senior players, Trish Scott, Helen Dawson and Debbie Bendeich, stepping in for her first with us for the season, teamed up with a section from the Moree club.
They played some hard polocrosse and although they didn't win any games they had fun mixing it with the other teams.
Their games were against Warialda 9-4, Cubbaroo(3) 9-2, Moree 9-4 and Cubbaroo(3) again 10-3.
Slade and Murray played with the Gully juniors for zone selections.
They had blinders of games with Murray playing the number one and number two positions in his section and Slade playing the number three in her section.
They were a treat to watch as they played just as hard and as fast as the adults.
There were some pretty tough competition, but they came out winning three of their four games.
Overall they were runners-up with Cubbaroo the overall winners having to be decided on a goal count back.
There were two New Zealand juniors who had just arrived on an exchange program through the Polocrosse Association, experiencing the Australian style of play.
I am sure Jana will find comfort in knowing she will be playing with Slade and not against her next time they meet.
Guy played fiercely in the subbies competition, playing the number one and two positions in his games.
Guy was also chosen to play in the zone team.
Since then Tiarna Breuer has been called on to represent the zone as well, congratulations to them all.
Galloping Gully Carnival
Our Ridge kids were on fire this weekend, putting up some very impressive performances.
We travelled to Galloping Gully for their annual carnival, and this year there was a little extra with the Gully club also hosting a three-day State of Origin clash, NSW v QLD. There were 61 teams competing, coming from Charleville, Lake George and over the mountains and many places in between.
The Ridge team of Neville Dawson, Angus Dowton, Rob and Murray Scott, Debbie and Slade Tribe won both their games on Saturday against Inverell 2 and a Narrabri/Moree mixed team.
Sunday the Ridge battled Charleville 2, but lost and had to face off against Cubbaroo 3 to decide the runners-up.
It turned out to be a very exciting game with the score going up and down with each chukka.
With some very vocal support (thanks Trish), the Ridge went into the last chukka behind and with some brilliant teamwork, Slade and Murray Tribe brought the score level at full-time, which meant the first sections had to go back on.
The ball went to ground on the first throw in and with it being picked up and lost, no one knew who was going to come out with it. Neville finally got clear, came over the line and in to score the winning goal.
Guy Tribe played in a mixed team of Lake George and Guyra players.
They teamed together very well to win all of their games.
Guy also filled in to help out another of the subby teams.
Tiarna Breuer played with another mixed team with two wins and two losses, and improving with each carnival.
It was an interesting game when Tiarna and Guy had to face each other.
A good weekend was had by all with some very solid polocrosse played.
