Junior league to go ahead

21 May, 2003 06:42 PM
The Lightning Ridge Junior Redbacks Rugby League Football Club held a pre-season meeting in the bowling club on Thursday last week.

All 17 adults who attended volunteered in various ways to help form and run the club.

A committee was formed and all executive members of it were voted for unanimously.

They were: president Charlie Brown, vice president Lawrence Walford, and secretary/treasurer Bob Hewlett.

Coaches and assistant coaches (who automatically become committee members) include Tom Barker, Paul Brown, Joan Jones, Charlie Brown, Trevor McGovern, Lawrence Walford, Dean Alchin, Mick Ah Kit and Paul Cassells.

This club will be part of the Barwon Darling Rugby League competition, which will be organised and initially funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation.

In the near future the department will be running coaching, strapping and refereeing courses and all participants will be screened to ensure their suitability in working with children.

Please contact any of the executive members if you wish to help.

Referees and coaches are always in demand or maybe you can help raise funds from raffle ticket selling.

Most fixtures will be on Sundays and this will help avoid clashing with the Junior Soccer Club activities and enable those children wishing to do so to play both codes.

Our next meeting will be held at the bowling club tonight at 7pm.

Anyone interested please attend as the season is drawing close.
