Six of those gentlemen on the course out for their Wednesday afternoon exercise last week.
Reg Proctor and Victor Borkovic both returned with scores of 27 points but I don't know who was the survivor as there is nothing in the book.
Ladies' golf
The girls had their July Monthly Medal on Wednesday last week with the hit off about 9:30am.
There were 10 attempting to secure the medal, but as usual there can only be one winner and that was Jan Davis. Jan scored a 96 nett 71 to win by one shot from Carmel Fiddling with Kay Hogan another shot away in third place.
The best gross score went to Kath Johnston with 91 shots for the 18 holes.
Putting for the day went to Kay Hogan with 26 putts for the 18 holes.
The girls had a pretty hard day at the office, as it was a really windy and dusty day out there which made play in some cases a lottery. Well done all.
Balls to: Carmel Fiddling and Kay Hogan.
Friday chook run
We had 28 players for last week's chase. It was a bit of a surprise when I came in on the morning to find 21 points had won the day. Martin Turner and Joe Popovic both finished on 21 and it was left to Martin to grasp the top position in the count back.
Chooks were won with scores down to 17 points where a count back between four players for the last two chooks saw Brett Hyland and John Mackay miss out.
The Black Opal Advocate Encouragement Award went to F Byrne with one point.
Chooks to: Joe Popovic, Don Welsh, Wolf Moosmueller, Elyn Nexo, Kath Johnston, Carmel Fiddling, Wendy Barrett, Jan Davis, Felix Monch, Ron Canlin, Carmel Fiddling and Jan Davis.
Saturday three-person ambrose
Twenty players turned up for the event in the afternoon. All had a great afternoon of golf and fun, great to see some new names among the players.
There were two teams tied on 38.34 at the finish but it was left to the lord Brett Hyland's team to pull off the win in the count back. The team consisted of Brett, Carmel Fiddling and Niki Jones; guess it was Niki that made the difference for you Brett. The team beaten into second place was the president's team of Val Boardman, Donna Lund and Don Welsh.
A big thank you to those non-golfers and visitors who came out for a game and a bit of fun, hope you all enjoyed yourselves. There will be another three-person ambrose in about four to six weeks.
Sunday Terry Wohni Trophy Day
Well a fantastic turnout of 24 players for Terry's day and it was terrific support for one of the club's major workers and supporter, thanks mate.
With Terry providing all the prizes and most of the food it was a great day enjoyed by all that attended. We had a men's and ladies winner, and runner-up, also long drives both for men and ladies with nearest the pins on all par threes and one for that special unlucky golfer, the Bradman's.
I'll deal with the Bradman's first as it has been a long time since this player has shown out at either end of the scale and it's time for his little space of notoriety, yes Don Welsh this is your space, 19 points for 18 holes of golf, must have spoilt you on the grass last time away. Never mind there is only room for improvement after that.
Back to the serious golfing, the ladies winner was Jan Davis with a great 37 points, just holding out the mini package of dynamite Heidi Smith who finished on 36 points. Well done girls.
Ron Canlin collected the men's section with a neat 42 points well clear of his closest rival Val Boardman on 36 points.
The big hitters in the club were at it again with Kath Johnston winning the ladies' long drive and Malcolm Carpenter out muscling the rest of the guys for the men's long drive.
This week
There will be a chook run as normal all day tomorrow with the last hit off at 3:30pm.
On Saturday the first round of the men's championships will hit off at 12:30pm, with the second round to be played on Sunday starting at 9am.
