Huge turnout for yabbie competition

19 Nov, 2004 08:29 AM
Last Saturday the Lightning Ridge Fishing Club held a Yabbie competition.

Nearly 90 people attended, and the winners were Langely's Lobsters who weighed in a fantastic 27kg.

They received a fishing club T-shirt with 2004 yabbie champs on the back, and a large trophy.

Winner of the biggest yabbie was Fox, he won a fishing club hat, cooler and voucher from Supersave.

Our guessing comp was won by Ollie Finn with a guess of 62kg. The weight of the yabbies caught for the day was a staggering 67.25kg.

The Calcutta was won by Borko with his Yabbie "Crusty". He won a whopping $451.50.

The junior Calcutta was won by young Brock Borko with his yabbie "Backflip". He won $24 and a fishing club T-shirt.

Our casting comp was won by Paul Brown in which he won $39 and graciously donated $19 back to the club. The winner of the esky was "Thommo". He won 105 litre esky, $100 meat voucher, two cartons of Tooheys and ice.

We would like to thank Amanda Turner who kindly donated $100 to the Fishing Club, Ridge Butchery for a donation of $50 towards the meat in the esky raffle. The Diggers Rest Hotel also donated the cartons and we thank you.

To all our helpers on the day especially Kimbo, Jason for the auctioning and Barry for the cooking those yabbies just right. Max, Ron and Maxine for the BBQ and DJ Grassy for his smooth tunes. A big thanks to the Nobbies Hotel and Staff. Lastly to all those who attended the yabbie comp, it was a great day and we hope you can attend our next yabbie comp in March.

Our final presentation for the winner of the 2004 Fishing Comp will be held at the Digger's Rest Hotel on Friday November 26 at 6.30pm. All members welcome and we will be having a barbecue.
