Hot weather greets lady golfers for season opener

28 Mar, 2002 10:26 AM
Ladies golf

Ladies held their season opening day on Wednesday last week at 9am.

Twelve players braved the elements to contest the day.

It was a terribly hot day and we decided to play a nine hole ambrose event to get out of the sun quickly and back to the clubhouse, to sample everyone's new recipes for lunch.

All the ladies seemed to have found new and exotic dishes for the coming year and after recipes were exchanged we got on the winners of the day.

The major drama was our new president, Cheryl, who had been wearing her badge of office for the very first time, and you guessed it, she consigned it to somewhere on the first nine holes of the course.

The scores on the day were good with Carmel and Shona winning the day with a two over par and nett 30.75.

Runners-up were Jan Davis and Sally Williams, while Jan Jakitsch and Elyn Nexo were ball winners.

This week is scheduled for an 18 hole stroke event and our first monthly medal, but this will be determined by the weather.

If it's too hot we will only play nine or 12 holes. That's it for this week except to add that any ladies wishing to learn to play golf can contact Stacey Reynolds at the Golf Club on 6829 0006.
