Under perfect blue skies, Lady President's Day bowls was held at the club on Sunday.
Representation came from the Namoi Association, Wee Waa, Collarenebri and locally from the Ridge and Goodooga.
A total of 32 ladies turned out for two games of congenial bowls.
After some very close games the winners, on count back, were the Lightning Ridge 1 team comprising Bev Everett (skip), Wilma Jones (3rd), Gloria Christian (2nd) and Liz Collins (lead).
Second was the Lightning Ridge 3 team comprising Betty Brouff (skip), Meg Morris (3rd), Dixie Skuthorpe (2nd) and Merlie McCabe (lead).
The winner of the Spider was Bev Everett. Merlie McCabe won the raffle. Joan Gebetsberger won the lucky door prize.
Lightning Ridge lady president Lyn Carney thanked the Namoi Association team for travelling so far to enjoy the day. This team was skipped by the Namoi Association president Marie McCarthy, along with Lorna Reynolds, Pat Hardman and Hazel O'Neill. Thanks to the bowling club for the venue, the support and a delicious lunch.
On Saturday Chris Egan and Joan Gebetsberger travelled to Walgett as part of a team of four (skipped by Toby Egan, 3rd Bob Newman) competing in A Day. They were successful in winning all three games. With four prizes offered, and five three game winners, they were then drawn to play the best of three ends against Rex Skuthorpe's team. No joy was to come of it and they were eliminated.
Our best wishes and good bowls go to Merlie McCabe who is travelling to Port Macquarie to compete against some big-name bowlers.
Ladies are asked to remember that the next general meeting will be held at 2pm on Saturday September 10. Please consider helping our club and putting your hand up.
