Heroic Fraar races to win in $5000 cup

Organisers of the horse races were pleased with the turn out on Saturday as many made their way from the goat races down to the betting ring.

Punters were in their element as they could bet on races in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane as well as the Lightning Ridge races.

Heroic Fraar won the $5000 Jim and Betty Marshall Memorial Lightning Ridge Opal Bracelet Cup with Nathan Patchett the jockey and Peter Finn of Coonamble the trainer.

Second was Worrier ridden by Glenn Davis and last year's winner, Agent Scully finished third, ridden by Michael Hackett.

In the Bill Waterford Memorial Maiden Handicap run over 900 meters, Boontarno picked up first place with Joe Galea the Jockey and Raymond Grant of Brewarrina the trainer.

Brother Murphy took out the $2450 prize money for first in the Landmark Walgett, Buttercup Bakeries Class One Handicap with Kelly Kehoe of Dubbo the trainer.

In the Tony Cambell Memorial Maiden Plate over 1200 meters it was Langtric ridden by Scott Sheargold and trained by Rodney Robb of Nyngan that was too strong for Hagana and Little Bisque.

In the last race of the day, the Lightning Ridge Bowling Club Class Two Handicap, Scott Sheargold and Rodney Robb of Nyngan combined again to see Collingwood Mike finish first from Cohan and Mayjak.

Best dressed was awarded to Margo Mackenzie, netting herself $100, with Dennis Breen taking out the best dressed man.
