Twenty-two players hit off for the chook run with everyone saying it was a bit damp out there.
The winner with a fine round of golf was Corey Ruttley who scored a neat 27 points. Corey held out his mate Mark Morris by two points with Mark scoring 25 points.
The Black Opal Advocate Encouragement Award went to Elyn Nexo.
Veterans
Eighteen vets turned up for the 12-hole stableford event. The winner with a very neat 26 points was Bryan Earl who easily held off Wolf Moosmueller and John Kimber both finishing on 23 points, with Wolf being runner-up in a count back.
Friday chook run
Well, what a wonderful Friday it was with a visit from the boys from Alcoholics Anonymous with their yearly trek to the outback. About 20 of them had a hit along with friends and by all accounts they had a ball or several which were lost in the many water holes around the course. With the AA chaps we had 59 players for the day.
The day belonged to Jan Davis who on her second round for the day scored a truly great 28 points. Jan held out from three players, Sally Williams, Mark Morris, and Chris Morris all on 26 points closely followed by Corey Ruttley, Kath Johnston and Felix Monch on 25 points.
The Black Opal Advocate Encouragement Award went to my old mate Pat McErlain with an awful six points.
Twelve hole par
Another great turn out for this event, with 16 players pacing the starter.
The winner with a super game of par golf was our resident Canadian Stacey Reynolds with a plus seven for the 12 holes, who could not have put a foot wrong on the way 'round. Barry Reynolds did a fine job with a plus five to be the runner-up on the day.
Matchplay
The afternoon saw combatants arrive for the 2002 championships, after many weeks of playoffs it was down to the final two. Referee Val Boardman had the buggy fired up and ready as Dave Schafer and Ian Hegarty warmed up on the practice fairway.
I believe it was a very tight match with Ian and Dave playing great golf, but as in all contests there has to be a winner and this time it was a very happy Ian Hegarty.
Eighteen hole stableford
There were 13 players on the morning.
Knud Nexo made light work of the course to fire a great 42 points, which was enough to give him the win over Bryan Earl and Terry Wohni who both chased hard and finished with 40 points each. Bryan finished in the runners-up position in a count back.
