Golfers welcome in board for 2004

03 Dec, 2003 05:47 PM
Being the last report of the year I would like to thank all those who helped me get the weekly report to the readers.

The Black Opal Advocate, the Ridge News and my old mate at Opal FM Bevan, you have all been super throughout the year and have made it very easy to get the reports out on time (I usually get a reminder from one of them if I'm late).

To all those who read the report I hope you have enjoyed some of the tales that come from the course, I find out quickly if I say the wrong thing.

I especially want to thank the golfers, Bandages Hogan, Wrong Way Ron, Down the Middle Smithy, Shifty Schafer, Dynamite Joe, I'll fill the card out when I get in Hyland and all those wonderful people who make the stories. Without you all there wouldn't be a golf report.

To everyone have a super Christmas and new year and if you travel remember we want you back next year in one piece and ready to swing that club.

Ladies golf

Eight girls played a stableford event on Wednesday with the win going to Jan Davis with 334 points only one point clear of Heidi smith who beat Kath Johnston in a count back for runner up.

Veterans

Eight of the older gentlemen of the club stretched the muscles on Wednesday. Someone asked me if it was a requirement for veterans to drive golf carts, no it's not a requirement but the comfort makes the frustration a little easier to control in some cases.

The winner was Val Boardman with 29 points ahead of Ron Canlin with 26 points. Well done fellas don't forget the Christmas party on December 10.

Friday chook run

Twenty three players hit off on Friday for the weekly chook chase over the 10 holes. The winner with a neat score of 25 points was the one and only Kath Johnston who was a winner by one points over Felix Monch.

The winner of the CC encouragement award was H Bresler with eight points. Just a bit of practice over Christmas and the scores will be chooks not chicken chips in the new year, enjoy.

Saturday 12 hole

stableford

Just eight players hit off on Saturday morning for the 12 hole comp with no takers for the afternoon game.

The winner with a fine 29 points was Joe Popovic. Joe was in total rapture as he has just returned from playing real golf on the coastal courses and didn't think he would get back in the swing so quickly. Jan Davis was the runner-up on 25 points with the ball winners being Sepp Jakitsch on 23 points and Val Boardman on 22 points.

Sunday golf AGM

Great to see a large turnout for the 12 hole game prior to the AGM with 19 players hitting off.

With a great score of 27 points on the day Val Boardman was declared the winner with a three shot advantage over Ron Hogan on 24.

The three balls for the day went to Sally Williams, Pat Smith and Dave Schafer.

The girls provided a great feed of sandwiches prior to the AGM, thanks girls the meal was fantastic.

AGM

The AGM was very successful with just about all the board positions filled with Val Boardman, Robina Boardman, Winsome O'Brien, Pat Mcerlain, Reg Huntley, Knud Nexo, Nigel Webb and Wolf Moosmueller making up the new board. A big thank you all members of the board and hope your year is great.

Discussions on the future of the club saw a couple of proposals thrown in with the board to investigate a couple for viability in conjunction with our accountant.

Kay was congratulated on the selection of trophies that were provided for the winners.
