A delegate from the Royal Bowls Association of NSW, Bruce Baker, was in Lightning Ridge on Sunday as part of the local Presidents Day event to mark a special occasion - the first time the No.6 State Pennants team's winning flag had flown outside the local club.
Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club president Peter Williams said the day was celebrated with a social four-person competition.
He said 24 teams from places such as Inverell, Wee Waa, Narrabri, Moree, Goodooga, Collarenebri and Walgett had travelled to Lightning Ridge to compete against the local players.
Mr Williams said a Goodooga team consisting of Noel Dobe, Dave and Les Mason and Geoff Lane won the day, with runners-up being the local contingent of Joe Demkanin, Merv King, Phil Turner and Phil Gale.
He said because two games had been played during the one-day competition, the event was also broken up to marking who won the game in the morning and the game in the afternoon.
"Another local team ended up being the morning winner and they were David Stallard, Martin Wright, Jack Walker and Morris Bowles."
He said the afternoon winners were a team from Walgett lead by Ted Chapman.
"It was a good successful President's Day, especially because it was my day," he said.
Mr Williams said everyone had played with good team spirit and the results of the social day were unimportant.
The Lightning Ridge District Bowling Club will be preparing to host their next big event on September 12, when a $7000 tournament, the Black Opal Classic Prelude will take place.
"It's four days of bowls, with two days to be played in pairs and the other two as a four-person competition," he said.
