The senior competition is under way with the first round for our Under 18s having been played at Collarenebri on Sunday last week against the Brewarrina Under 18s.
It was good to see a full turnout of the boys, keep it up.
Well done to you all for a decisive win of 32-20.
Our best and fairest on the day was Ben Mitchell who was presented with a ball donated by the Department of Sport and Recreation.
As there is a shortage of Under 18s teams in the competition we are trying to organise some extra games for our team to keep their interest and fitness up.
Last Sunday, Walgett visited us with three teams - Under 8s, Under 10s and Under 13s.
The coach's report on the 8s and 10s follows:
This week's game against Walgett saw a turn around from the last time these guys met.
After Walgett dominated the first third the Ridge boys hit back in the second.
The game was exciting seeing the football go from one end to the other with some top tries.
Mitchell McGovern, Lindsay Frizell, Wesley Vrtacnik, Blake Brown, and Kaleb Bolton all showed that they are consistent once again with a great performance, not to mention our two new sign-ups Todd Ellis and Mike Dean who proved that they could play football also.
In the end Walgett won this clash which sets the scene for a great battle next time they meet.
The Under 8s would like to give a get well message to their playmaker Brody Simon who missed the game due to a knock he sustained at training.
The referee's points for the Under 8s were three points to Mitchell McGovern, two to Lindsay Frizell and one point to Wesley Vrtacnik.
Under 10s
This game started with the Ridge boys getting absolutely outclassed in the first 15 minutes with Walgett scoring four quick tries.
After some harsh words from the coach, the boys knuckled down and began to fight back with some great hit-ups and fierce tackles.
Going into the break Walgett was in front by three tries.
After a halftime chat the lads came out firing and kept the Walgett side scoreless in the second half.
Two quick tries saw the Ridge back in contention although the clock was against them, which saw Walgett run out winners.
The next time these two teams meet will be worth watching as the Ridge is improving each game.
The referee's best and fairest points went to Thomas Alchin with three, Dillon Walker-Loughlin two points and Zac Taylor picking up one.
Thank you to Noo Dooz Hair Design, the Ridge Butchery and Khan's IGA Supermarket for supporting the 8s and 10s, it is much appreciated.
Under 13s
The Under 13s had a fantastic game - a real cliff hanger with lots of good clean action - the game could have gone either way with the Redbacks launching attacks up until the final whistle.
The final score was 10-6 to Walgett but well done for a mighty effort Ridge.
Thanks again to all the volunteers who helped on the day and thanks to the people who supported our 100 clubs and our canteen.
There are two prizes still to be claimed - Trisha Welsh for $20 and Betty Walton for $10 - Dean Alchin from the ambulance station is the man to see to collect these.
This Saturday we are planning a juniors' trip to Goodooga.
Teams are to muster at the sports oval at 8:30am as the bus will leave at 9am sharp.
A gold coin donation will be asked of all passengers, with seat preference given to players and coaches - supporters can fill up any spare seats at 9am on departure.
